Man charged with theft safecracking following Tiffin Hy Miler incident

A man who allegedly stole a cash register from Hy-Miler Saturday was arrested Monday and charged with theft, obstruction and safecracking.Tiler J. Clinger, 25, of Tiffin, was arrested after police identified him through surveillance video and as a person who was walking in the area of the store an hour after the theft was reported.According to police reports, Clinger had allegedly entered Hy-Miler, 247 S. Sandusky St., around 3 a.m. and took the cash register's strongbox after he purchased a pack of gum. The clerk had walked away from the register after Clinger's purchase, and saw him run away with the register as another customer entered the store.Clinger appeared in court Tuesday morning by video where his bond was set at $44,000, a court spokeswoman said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 25.
