Website provides resources on preventing accidents

SPRINGFIELD, MO. - This month, Safe Kids Springfield is kicking off “Safetember” as a reminder for families to take safety precautions and prevent injuries to children. With the re-launch of its website, parents and caregivers will have easy-to-find resources for safety proofing their home, where to find a local car seat technician, and upcoming events/programs for families.Everyday, children are injured and killed from “accidents”—fires, motor vehicle crashes, poisonings, and other causes. More than 90% of these “accidents” are preventable. It is nearly impossible for parents to keep their eyes on their children every second, yet families can take precautions to make sure their children are safe by having their car seats inspected by a child passenger safety technician, keeping poisons locked and out of reach of children, testing their smoke alarms, and many other simple procedures that don’t take a lot of time or money.

“Our goal is to reduce the number of children being injured from preventable injuries,” said Daphne Greenlee, Coordinator of Safe Kids Springfield and Trauma Outreach Coordinator at St. John’s Hospital. “By providing these resources to families, we can work together to make children safe at home, at play, and during travel.”For more information about child safety and injury prevention, call Safe Kids Springfield at 417-820-6671 or visit www.safekidsspringfield.org or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/safekidsspringfield
